In Burkina Faso the unemployment rate is very high for young people. More than of unemployed people are under years of age. Furthermore, the search for work, even for children and young people, causes significant internal displacement of the population, especially from rural areas to urban centers, with all the risks that forced migration entails. But this serious problem is a direct consequence of the lack of compliance with children’s rights that this African country must face. The most vulnerable boys and girls from families with few resources, most of them in rural areas, are deprived of such basic services as access to health centers, drinking water, education or even good nutrition or housing. This is the case of Aminata, a young Burkinabe who, at only years old, is already a single mother. She lived in a small town a few kilometers from the city of Ouahigouya, where a few years ago she moved with her aunt to be able to continue her studies.
An opportunity that could not be missed
After giving birth, she had to rest, which further increas her vulnerability. She had no one to help her raise her baby, not even the father of her son, and no way to earn a living.
