She said that in 2012 she lost her first daughter, Helena, who was 17 days old, due to the lack of a neonatal ICU in her city.
After the initial shock, resulting from a mixture of dismay at the unimaginable pain of that mother and admiration for the grandeur of her reaction, I spoke of my respect for her struggle.
I made myself available, explained my difficulty with time availability, and said that I would certainly do something.

I humbly agreed and started to think about what I had to do. I said that I didn’t know exactly how yet, but that that fight would be mine too. And my first decision was to share that story.

The campaign of this and many other people engaged in this type of work is an attempt to avoid or alleviate the pain of others, as a response to their own suffering. And that is great.
Consider that if Beloved Helena can get even one more ICU, all the children who pass through her will have been blessed with an opportunity that Helena did not have, and will live, even if without knowing it, a little of her life. And this will give meaning to the lives of all of us who lost Helena.
